Fixr's figures for a 10-yard dumpster: about $25–$80 a day, $250–$400 a week, or $500–$1,000 a month (Fixr: dumpster rental cost (updated January 2025)). Most companies include a set number of days (often 7 to 14) and charge a daily fee after that.
What changes the price
- Weight. Quotes usually include a weight allowance (often a ton or more). Go over it and you pay per extra ton. Heavy debris like concrete, dirt and roofing shingles adds up fast.
- Debris type. Some materials must go to special facilities and cost more to dispose of, or need their own dumpster.
- Rental length. Extra days beyond the included period are charged daily.
- Location and permits. If the dumpster has to go on the street, many cities require a permit (see our permit guide).
- Delivery and pickup. Most quotes include both, but rural or hard-to-reach sites may cost extra.
How to get the best price
- Get two or three quotes for the same size, rental length and weight allowance, so you're comparing like for like.
- Ask exactly what's included: days, tons, and the price per extra ton and per extra day.
- Don't over-size: a bigger dumpster costs more, but overfilling one that's too small means a second haul.
